Overriding Currencies and Language Settings for Storefronts
This article applies to Contextual Commerce. (Looking for Classic Commerce documentation?)
About the Purchaser's Country
A purchaser's selected country can have a variety of impacts on the purchase process. For example, the selected country can affect:
- the currency selected by default (and thus the prices shown)
- whether or not the prices include VAT by default
- whether or not a link to enter the purchaser's VAT ID is displayed
- the payment methods available to the purchaser (e.g. customers in Germany have several payment methods not available to customers in the United States)
However, the country selected does not control or determine the selected language.
Tip
If you set up a Storefront that is intended for purchasers in a certain location, you might want to override the automatic country selection process and set a specific purchaser country to be used by default.
Currencies and Languages Available to Purchasers
FastSpring supports transactions in fourteen different languages and up to nineteen different currencies.
Should you need to limit the languages or currencies available to purchasers, you can do so at the individual Storefront level. Currencies can also be limited for the entire Store if desired. You can also configure a Storefront to use a specific country by default rather than automatically selecting the country based on the geographic location of the customer's IP address.
Note
Russian Rubles (RUB) and South African Rand (ZAR) are supported but are disabled for all Stores by default. Enabling either of these currencies will make PayPal unavailable as a payment option in the corresponding countries.
